What's the story?

MyHomeTown is a service that protects access to information on people who have volunteered to provide it in return for rewards or other incentives. It uses the internet to engage local people in their community and it uses Smartcards and mobile phones to deliver the rewards they choose. It is a localised service based in their town centre.

It uses personalised incentives to reward people for helping themselves to lead better lives, and for caring for their families, their community and their environment. And it helps them learn to share.

It protects information on the people who are part of the community, and helps focus their spending and time on things that help to build and strengthen their communities and those who live within it.

Having all this information stored in one place makes it very valuable for organisations that need to connect with the people in a community. By working together it can increase the bargaining and buying power for individuals. It also means that these organisations don’t have to spend as much money on things like advertising to the wrong people because they can connect directly with people that have chosen to let them contact them.

It is modelled on the Tesco Clubcard but instead of the profits going to Tesco’s shareholders, they go to the local community where the people can decide what it’s spent on.

It the pilot is successful, other communities throughout the UK will be invited to join in this new way of working so that we can to create a more powerful network that saves even more money.
